Linksys WRT54GR Has Added Power In Its Range Booster

The WRT 54GR is a wireless router. It is designed with ports comprising of single 10/100Base-T WAN and four 10/100Base-T LAN. It is a router whose access point conforms to IEEE 802.11/g standards. The Linksys WRT 54GR is a wireless-G broadband with range booster. It is a three in one device. One, it has wireless access point which allows connections to the network of wireless-G, wireless-B and range booster devices. Second, it is equipped with a four port full-duplex 10/100 switch which enables you to connect to the wired-Ethernet devices. Third, the router binds all network users and allows the sharing of data with a high speed DSL connection.

Role of the range booster

It has a range booster. What does this mean? The range booster technology is actually an additional feature to the standard wireless-G. What it does is very beneficial – increase the range of the wireless network to twice as much as those without range booster. The throughput is also increased by 35% and possible dead spots are minimized.

This range booster boosts of two smart receivers at each end whose designated purpose is to find distances that normal technologies cannot. It has a WiFi protected access (WPA) which is the privacy endowment. This protects your data up to a 128-bit strength encryption.

This router is your DHCP server. It has a powerful firewall (SPI) which protects your computer devices from unwanted intruders in the network. It also supports a VPN pass-through.

Features of WRT54GR

It has LAN / WAN enabled connectivity; one port for WAN and 4 ports for LAN. The type of WAN and LAN ports is 10/100 Base-TX (RJ-44). There are no USB and Serial ports provided.

The router has the following features: NAT routing, multihomed, port forwarding, port triggering, DHCP server, UPnP, MAC Address clone. The DSL is PPPoE client.

For the WiFi, we have the following: supports 802.11b and 802.11g with 11 Mbps and 54 Mbps, respectively. It has WiFi access points and two removable external antennas.

The VPN has IPSec passthrough, L2TP passthrough and PPTP passthrough. It is also equipped with SPI firewall for filtering domain/URL blocking, keyword/content filtering, proxy, Java, Activex, Cookie.
